Floating Hospital began in 1894 as a hospital ship for children that sailed Boston Harbor. It instituted the concept of family-centered care. Today Floating Hospital is a major academic medical center in downtown Boston.
Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center is a comprehensive, full-service children’s hospital. All physicians at Floating Hospital hold faculty appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine. These are the leaders in their fields, conducting academic medical research, authoring textbooks, and using their years of experience to treat complex pediatric illnesses. Their mission is to improve the lives of children and their families.
